Carpenter Media Group Acquires Enterprise Media Group

Carpenter Media Group, parent of Black Press Media, has acquired Enterprise Media Group’s 10 weekly newspapers and three total-market shoppers across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. The sixth-generation, family-owned Enterprise (led by Mark and Chris Rhoades) reaches more than 40,000 readers; Carpenter says the acquisition will strengthen local journalism and support the publications' staffs.

Carpenter Media Group has acquired M. Roberts Media, a family-owned Texas publisher that owns seven newspapers and multiple magazines and marketing businesses serving South and East Texas. The deal transfers control of titles including the Victoria Advocate, Longview News-Journal and Tyler Morning Telegraph to Carpenter as it expands its community-news footprint; terms were not disclosed.

Carpenter Media Group Acquires Phillips Media Group Portfolio and Nowata Printing Company

Carpenter Media Group, the parent company of Black Press Media, acquired Phillips Media Group's portfolio in August, purchasing 16 community newspapers across Arkansas, Missouri and Illinois along with the Nowata Printing Company in Springfield, Missouri. The deal expands Carpenter Media Group's footprint in U.S. community publishing and adds printing capabilities to its existing portfolio of more than 250 titles in Canada and the U.S.

Affiliates of Apollo Global Management Acquire Majority Stake in Cox Media Group

Affiliates of Apollo Global Management completed the acquisition of a majority interest in Cox Media Group from Cox Enterprises, with Cox retaining a minority stake. The deal transfers ownership of CMG’s television and radio stations, Ohio newspapers, CoxReps and Gamut digital/OTT advertising businesses to the Apollo-backed company, which will continue to operate as Cox Media Group headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Cast & Crew Acquires Media Services

Cast & Crew has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Media Services, a Los Angeles–based payroll and production management solutions provider for film, television, streaming and commercials. The deal, supported by Cast & Crew's parent EQT, will bring Media Services' Showbiz software and payroll expertise into the Cast & Crew platform to expand its product and service offering to entertainment clients.

E.W. Scripps Company Acquires ION Media

The E.W. Scripps Company will acquire ION Media from an entity controlled by Black Diamond Capital Management for $2.65 billion, creating a national television networks business by combining ION with Scripps’ Katz networks and Newsy. Berkshire Hathaway is providing $600 million of preferred equity to finance the transaction; the deal is expected to deliver substantial synergies and requires FCC and HSR approvals.
