Enel Takes 21% Stake in Ufinet International for €150M

Enel has agreed to invest €150 million to acquire a 21% stake in Ufinet International, an independent fibre network operator headquartered in Madrid. Cinven will retain a 79% majority holding; the strategic partnership gives Ufinet additional capital and access to Enel's Latin American assets to accelerate FTTH, wholesale fibre deployment and M&A-driven expansion.

Cinven's Fifth Fund has agreed to sell Ufinet Group, a Madrid-headquartered independent fibre network operator, to a consortium led by Antin Infrastructure Partners (acquiring Ufinet Spain) and Cinven's Sixth Fund (acquiring Ufinet International) for an undisclosed consideration. Ufinet operates ~66,800 km of fibre across two continents and employs roughly 1,020 people; Cinven said the transaction generates over €1.1 billion of capital gain and is expected to complete in July 2018.

Macquarie Asset Management Acquires 40% Stake in Open Fiber from Enel

Macquarie Asset Management has finalised an agreement to acquire a 40% equity interest in Open Fiber from Enel for €2.12 billion, while CDP Equity will hold the remaining 60% following Enel’s full exit. Open Fiber operates Italy’s largest FTTH network (over 12 million households passed) and the investment will support the company’s continued rollout of ultrafast broadband across Italy; completion was expected in Q4 2021 subject to regulatory approvals.

Cinven to acquire majority stake in Euro Techno Com Group from Carlyle

Cinven has entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire a majority stake in Euro Techno Com Group (ETC Group), a France‑headquartered distributor of telecom and technology infrastructure products, from Carlyle. Founder and CEO Cédric Varasteh would retain a significant stake and Carlyle will reinvest as a minority shareholder; the Group has around 1,100 employees and generates more than €1 billion in annual revenues.
