Aquarian Holdings Acquires Controlling Interest in Somerset Reinsurance Ltd.

Aquarian Holdings has closed the acquisition of a controlling interest in Bermuda-domiciled Somerset Reinsurance Ltd., a reinsurer focused on the U.S. life insurance and annuity market. Aquarian will provide substantial immediate and committed capital and, through Aquarian Investments, serve as asset manager to support Somerset Re's growth while existing investors Hannover Re and Weiss Family Interests retain ownership stakes and remain involved.

KKR and Quadrantis Capital Acquire Minority Stakes in Peak Reinsurance Company Limited

KKR and Quadrantis Capital entered into definitive agreements to acquire minority stakes in Peak Reinsurance Company Limited (“Peak Re”) via Peak Reinsurance Holdings Limited. After completion, KKR is expected to hold ~11.27% and Quadrantis ~1.80%, while majority shareholder Fosun International Limited is expected to retain ~86.71%; Prudential has divested its ~13.07% stake.

Zanders Acquires RiskQuest

Zanders, backed by private equity investor MML Capital Partners, has acquired RiskQuest, a Dutch risk consultancy. The acquisition adds RiskQuest's team and software suite to Zanders, further expanding its European capabilities in credit risk, ESG and financial economic crime and growing the group's global headcount to around 450 across 11 offices.

Arch Reinsurance Acquires Somerset Bridge Group and Southern Rock Holdings

Arch Reinsurance Ltd., a subsidiary of Arch Capital Group Ltd., announced a planned acquisition of Somerset Bridge Group Limited, Southern Rock Holdings Limited and affiliates (collectively “Somerset”), subject to regulatory approval. The deal brings Somerset's motor managing general agent, distribution capabilities, affiliated insurer and integrated claims operation into Arch Re’s platform to deepen its UK motor and distribution capabilities.

Starr Acquires IQUW Group

Arthur J. Gallagher / Gallagher Re Acquires Bay Risk Services Limited

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., through its reinsurance division Gallagher Re, has acquired the business and assets of UK-based Lloyd’s broker Bay Risk Services Limited, a member of the Optio Group. Bay Risk, founded in 2016 and specializing in structuring and placing delegated underwriting authority (binder) business for program managers, MGAs and Lloyd’s coverholders, will join Gallagher Re’s global programs practice; the existing Bay Risk leadership team will remain in place. Terms were not disclosed.
