Once Upon a Farm (a Berkeley-based plant-based kid nutrition company) acquired Raised Real, a direct-to-consumer organic baby food meal delivery company. The acquisition adds Raised Real’s frozen meal capabilities and subscription DTC assets to Once Upon a Farm’s portfolio, expanding its product formats (fresh refrigerated pouches to frozen meals) and strengthening its DTC and retail reach.

Danone Acquires Kate Farms

Danone has acquired Kate Farms, a U.S.-based maker of plant-based clinical nutrition formulas, bringing the company into Danone’s North America Medical Nutrition business. Investors including Novo Holdings, Goldman Sachs, Kaiser Ventures, Main Street Advisors, Aliment, Coeffecient, Ithaka and individual investors supported Kate Farms’ growth and are parties to the transaction. Kate Farms will continue operating as part of Danone’s North America Medical Nutrition unit under leadership led by Brett Matthews.

Danone Acquires Functional Formularies from Swander Pace Capital

Swander Pace had owned Functional Formularies since 2018 and invested in sales, innovation, and operations to grow the business; advisors on the transaction included Lazard and Jones Day.

Brynwood Partners' Buitoni Food Company Acquires North American Buitoni Business from Nestlé USA

Brynwood Partners VIII L.P., through its newly formed portfolio company Buitoni Food Company, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the North American Buitoni business from Nestlé USA. The deal (terms undisclosed) includes a 240,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Danville, Virginia with approximately 525 full-time employees and rights to the Buitoni brand in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean; Buitoni Food Company will be headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut.

Bettera Brands (Highlander Partners) Acquires Nutravail

Bettera Brands, a portfolio company of Highlander Partners, acquired substantially all of the assets of Nutravail, a Chantilly, Virginia-based developer and manufacturer of soft chew nutraceuticals. The acquisition expands Bettera's confectionary delivery capabilities (gummies, lozenges and chewables) and is intended to accelerate cross-selling, product development and manufacturing capacity for wellness brands.
