Duolingo Acquires Detroit-Based Motion Design Studio Hobbes

Duolingo, Inc. has acquired Hobbes, a Detroit-based animation and motion design studio, in an acquisihire that brings twelve designers and animators onto Duolingo's design team. The deal (cash plus equity awards) creates Duolingo's first dedicated motion design team and nearly doubles the size of its Detroit office to accelerate product animation and UX.

Web3 media brand Doodles has agreed to acquire award-winning animation studio Golden Wolf, with the deal expected to close in the coming weeks. As part of the transaction Golden Wolf's team (and founder Ingi Erlingsson as Chief Content Officer) will join Doodles; creative studio Psyop will also invest in Doodles and form a joint venture with Golden Wolf called Active Ingredient to develop AI- and blockchain-enabled animation tools.

Cadence Acquires Hexagon's Design & Engineering Business

Cadence Design Systems completed the acquisition of Hexagon AB's Design & Engineering (D&E) business for approximately €2.7 billion in cash and Cadence common stock. Hexagon received ~3.2 million Cadence shares (about 30% of consideration) with the remainder in cash; the D&E business contributed roughly €265 million of revenue in 2024 and the sale is expected to produce a ~€1.4 billion gain for Hexagon. The deal expands Cadence's capabilities in physical AI, multiphysics and system-level design and analysis.
