Insurance Acquisitions in Maine

COVU, an AI-native insurance servicing platform, has acquired Ford Insurance Agency, a 100+-year-old, family-owned independent agency based in Maine. The deal is COVU's fourth acquisition as it builds a national platform to scale independent agencies while retaining brands and key personnel.

The Hilb Group, a Carlyle-backed property & casualty and employee benefits insurance brokerage, acquired a Maine-based property and casualty business effective April 1, 2025. The deal expands Hilb Group’s New England footprint by adding Maine to its portfolio and broadens its P&C offerings in the region.

Risk Strategies, a North American specialty insurance brokerage, has acquired The Baker Benefit Group, LLC (BBG), a boutique firm focused on designing and servicing Individual Disability Insurance (IDI) and ancillary executive benefits for large employer clients. The acquisition expands Risk Strategies' executive/ancillary benefits capabilities and deepens its service offering for large employer groups primarily in the Northeast.

Eberl Claims Service has acquired Colonial Adjustment, Inc., a New England–focused independent adjusting firm, effective March 15, 2024. The deal expands Eberl's national footprint with an emphasis on the Northeast and provides Colonial access to Eberl's technology, training resources and wider adjuster/repair network.

Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA), a subsidiary of Marsh, has acquired Clark Insurance, a full-service independent insurance agency headquartered in Portland, Maine; the transaction also includes Haberman Insurance, which Clark acquired in 2021. The deal brings all 135 Clark employees (plus Haberman staff) into MMA and expands MMA's presence across New England with Clark's offices in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

AccuRisk, part of Ardonagh Global Partners, has acquired Matrix Group Benefits, a Portland, Maine-based managing general underwriter (MGU) specializing in medical stop-loss for partially self-funded employer plans. The Matrix team of about twelve will be integrated into AccuRisk’s staff in Portland as part of Ardonagh's North American expansion and to expand AccuRisk's stop-loss capabilities and intellectual capital.
