Edgewater Capital Partners, a Cleveland-based private equity firm, has partnered with the shareholders and management of CBCC Global Research, a Bakersfield-headquartered clinical contract research organization (CRO). Edgewater's investment will support CBCC's growth by funding people, technology, and infrastructure to expand its clinical trial services across oncology, CNS, ophthalmology and other therapeutic areas.

Kohlberg Acquires Majority Stake in Worldwide Clinical Trials

An affiliate of Kohlberg & Company agreed to acquire a majority stake in Worldwide Clinical Trials, a global contract research organization (CRO) headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The transaction is a recapitalization in which prior investor TJC, L.P. retains a meaningful minority equity stake; terms were not disclosed. Kohlberg will partner with Worldwide's management (Matt Jennings to become chairman) to support continued growth of the company's clinical trial and bioanalytical capabilities.

The IMA Group Acquires Chicago Research Center

The IMA Group (IMA Clinical Research), a PE-backed national clinical research platform, has acquired Chicago Research Center (CRC), an independent clinical research site in Chicago specializing in CNS and sleep disorder trials. The deal expands IMA's geographic footprint and capabilities—marking its first dedicated sleep research site—and will keep CRC's leadership and staff in place to support Phase I–IV trials.

As part of the recapitalization, Robert Wicke was named CEO and the company will use proceeds to advance its cellular analysis product portfolio and expand commercial adoption across pharmaceutical, academic, biotech and environmental markets.

St. Cloud partnered with a second, unnamed financial investor focused on control investments in life sciences and industrial sectors; the deal is being made from St. Cloud’s third fund. Catawba is a vertically integrated contract research organization providing Phase II–IV clinical trial management, data management, biostatistics and medical writing with locations in the U.S. and India.
