Cairngorm Capital-backed PaintWell Limited has acquired Kent Blaxill Group Limited, adding 23 branches and extending PaintWell’s branch network across the East of England and the South East. The enlarged group will operate 46 branches with c.250 employees and combined revenues of £55m; members of the Kent and Blaxill families are exiting but reinvesting and Kent Blaxill’s management will remain.

An affiliate of Cairngorm Capital LP III has made a majority investment in Bromborough Paint & Building Supplies Ltd, supporting a management buy-out by the company’s executive team and enabling owner Neville Wellings to retire. Cairngorm will partner with directors Giuseppe Alfonso, John Ferrington and Dan Peacock, backing geographic expansion (new branch in Warrington) and a buy-and-build strategy while investing in Bromborough's ecommerce platform Trade1st.

American Industrial Partners Acquires PPG's U.S. & Canadian Architectural Coatings Business (Pittsburgh Paints Co.)

American Industrial Partners (AIP) completed the acquisition of PPG's U.S. and Canadian architectural coatings business for $550 million and has renamed the business The Pittsburgh Paints Company. The newly independent company — a top-three producer of interior and exterior paints, stains, caulks, adhesives and sealants with more than 6,000 employees and 750 company-owned stores — will operate as a focused platform serving professional and DIY end markets across the U.S. and Canada.

Kept Companies Acquires CarePro National Painting

Sherwin-Williams Acquires Gross & Perthun GmbH

The Sherwin-Williams Company announced an agreement to acquire Gross & Perthun GmbH, a Mannheim, Germany–based developer, manufacturer and distributor of industrial coatings primarily serving the heavy equipment and transportation industries. Gross & Perthun has about 100 employees and roughly $50 million in annual sales; the business will become part of Sherwin-Williams' Performance Coatings Group and the transaction was expected to close by the end of Q3 2022.

The Protech Group Acquires MF Paints Inc.

Montreal-based The Protech Group has acquired 100% of MF Paints Inc., a Laval, Quebec manufacturer and distributor of architectural paints and stains, with the transaction effective October 7, 2023. Protech said it will leverage its purchasing, technical and manufacturing capabilities to expand MF Paints' product offerings and strengthen its presence in the Canadian retail and commercial building paints market; the Morello family and MF Paints shareholders sold the company.
