Cairngorm Capital Backs Management Buyout of Bromborough Paint & Building Supplies

An affiliate of Cairngorm Capital LP III has made a majority investment in Bromborough Paint & Building Supplies Ltd, supporting a management buy-out by the company’s executive team and enabling owner Neville Wellings to retire. Cairngorm will partner with directors Giuseppe Alfonso, John Ferrington and Dan Peacock, backing geographic expansion (new branch in Warrington) and a buy-and-build strategy while investing in Bromborough's ecommerce platform Trade1st.

Cairngorm Capital’s portfolio company Grant & Stone Group has completed three add-on acquisitions—RGB Building Supplies, Buildit Gloster and Total Plumbing Supplies—creating the largest independent builders’ merchant group in southern England with 74 branches, combined revenues approaching £250m and more than 1,000 employees. The transactions expand Grant & Stone’s geographic footprint across Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire as part of a roll-up growth strategy supported by Cairngorm Capital.

Cairngorm Capital Acquires Fairalls (Builders' Merchants)

Cairngorm Capital Partners has acquired Fairalls (Builders' Merchants) Limited, adding it to its existing building merchant businesses Parkers Building Supplies and Stamco to create the largest independent builders' merchant group in the South East of England. The enlarged group operates 24 branches with over 500 employees and combined revenues of approximately £120 million; Fairalls itself reported c.£15m revenue and about 85 employees and will continue to trade under the Fairalls brand with Richard Fairall remaining involved during the transition.

The deal adds CRS’s 12 branches and local brand to Grant & Stone’s footprint, creating an enlarged group with 44 branches, over 500 employees and revenues in excess of £140m; the transaction was driven by the CRS owners' succession planning.
