Los Angeles-based private equity firm Butterfly has acquired a majority stake in Pete and Gerry's Organics, the leading U.S. producer of organic, free-range and pasture-raised eggs. British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) joins as a new minority investor and Pete and Gerry's CEO Jesse Laflamme will retain an ownership stake and continue to lead the company.

Chicago-based private equity firm Benford Capital Partners has formed Pasture Brands Holdings, LLC to recapitalize Farmers Hen House, a Kalona, Iowa–based specialty egg producer. CEO Ryan Miller will remain in place and Benford plans to invest in sales, operations, product development and marketing while pursuing add-on acquisitions to grow the platform.

Mrs. Gerry's Kitchen (Sequel Holdings) Acquires Garden-Fresh Foods

Mrs. Gerry's Kitchen, a portfolio company of Sequel Holdings, has acquired Garden-Fresh Foods. Alantra acted as exclusive financial advisor to Garden-Fresh; the family owners (Tom and Vicki Hughes and their sons) and CEO John Colapinto will remain involved after the sale, and the deal brings together two prepared-salad manufacturers to expand scale and capabilities in refrigerated ready-to-eat foods.

Local Bounti Acquires Hollandia Produce (Pete's)

Local Bounti Corporation completed the acquisition of California-based Hollandia Produce Group, Inc., which operates under the Pete's brand, effective April 4, 2022. The transaction was funded with $122.5 million (approximately $92.5 million cash under a Cargill lending facility and $30.0 million in Local Bounti common stock) and adds Pete's ~130 employees and retail distribution footprint to Local Bounti's controlled-environment agriculture platform.

Wayne-Sanderson Farms Acquires Harrison Poultry

Wayne-Sanderson Farms has acquired Georgia-based Harrison Poultry in a private transaction effective immediately, transferring all Harrison assets including processing, hatchery, feed mill and transportation operations. The acquisition — part of Wayne-Sanderson's strategic growth initiative — expands its production capacity and product portfolio (including Harrison brands Golden Goodness, Pollo Eldorado and Al Marwah); financial terms were not disclosed.
