Surmodics has completed a merger with Biocoat and formed a new division, Surmodics Services & Technologies (SST), to carry forward the portion of Biocoat's business remaining after divesting certain assets. SST, based in Horsham, Pennsylvania, will provide hydrophilic coating technologies, custom polymer formulations and full-service coating operations to medical device manufacturers worldwide.

The acquisition strengthens Biosynth's capabilities in conjugate vaccines and bioconjugate drugs and adds GMP bioconjugation and PEGylation manufacturing in Berlin to its service offering.

Cordis Acquires MedAlliance

Cordis, the interventional cardiovascular device company, announced the acquisition of Switzerland-based MedAlliance, developer of the SELUTION SLR sirolimus drug‑eluting balloon. The deal includes an initial $35M investment, $200M payable at closing (expected 2023), plus up to $125M in regulatory milestones and up to $775M in commercial milestones through 2029; Cordis will begin co-promotion of SELUTION SLR in markets where it is available.

Sartorius Stedim Biotech Acquires Polyplus

Sartorius Stedim Biotech agreed to acquire Strasbourg-based Polyplus (Polyplus‑transfection S.A.) for €2.4 billion, pending customary regulatory approvals. The transaction buys the business from private equity backers including ARCHIMED and Warburg Pincus and strengthens Sartorius’s cell & gene therapy reagent and upstream bioprocessing portfolio.
