Sterling Publishing Acquires Boxer Books

Sterling Publishing Co., Inc. (via its Union Square & Co. imprint) has acquired London-based children’s publisher Boxer Books, adding more than 200 backlist titles and several frontlist projects to Union Square Kids and the Boxer Books imprint. Boxer Books founder and publisher David Bennett will continue to lead the imprint and report to Union Square & Co.’s Chief Creative Officer, with distribution relationships maintained in the U.S. and U.K.

Sterling Publishing Acquires Knock Knock

Sterling Publishing (through its Union Square & Co. imprint) acquired Knock Knock, the Los Angeles–based gift and publishing company that includes the Knock Knock and Em & Friends brands. The acquisition adds more than 600 backlist products and 150 frontlist projects to Union Square & Co.'s catalog and will be overseen by Emily Meehan of Union Square & Co.; Knock Knock's founders will remain as creative consultants.

Hachette Book Group Acquires Workman Publishing

Hachette Book Group has entered into a binding agreement to acquire Workman Publishing, bringing Workman's imprints and backlist into HBG as its eighth publishing group. Workman will be led by CEO Dan Reynolds reporting to HBG CEO Michael Pietsch, and Executive Chair Carolan Workman will retire at close; the deal is subject to regulatory approval.

Skyhorse Publishing Acquires Regnery Publishing from Salem Media Group

Skyhorse Publishing has agreed to acquire Regnery Publishing from Salem Media Group, with the transaction expected to close by year-end. Salem said the sale will place the longtime conservative publisher under Skyhorse’s stewardship, while Skyhorse plans to absorb Regnery’s more than 1,500 titles into its catalogue and operate Regnery as an imprint.

Catapult Book Group Acquires Hawthorne Books & Literary Arts

Catapult Book Group has acquired Portland-based independent press Hawthorne Books & Literary Arts, including its full catalog and trademark. Hawthorne will become the fourth imprint within the Catapult portfolio (alongside Catapult, Counterpoint Press, and Soft Skull Press), with Hawthorne's founder Rhonda Hughes remaining on as Contributing Editor and distribution shifting to Penguin Random House.

RBmedia Acquires McGraw Hill Professional Audiobook Publishing Business

The deal expands RBmedia's business and professional audio offerings while allowing McGraw Hill Professional to monetize its audio rights through a strategic publishing partnership.
