Kemin Industries has acquired Archangel Inc., a specialist in antimicrobial solutions for fermentative biofuel production, adding Archangel's NOVA EZL and NOVA EZP products and four patent applications to Kemin's Bio Solutions portfolio. Archangel founder Allen Ziegler will join Kemin as a Principal Sales Manager, and the deal strengthens Kemin's ability to serve the U.S. biofuel industry with expanded bacterial-control capabilities.

Kemin Industries Acquires CJ Youtell Biotech

Kemin Industries has acquired CJ Youtell Biotech, the enzymes and fermentation subsidiary of CJ Bio, gaining full ownership of CJ Youtell’s fermentation plants and enzyme product portfolio. The acquisition adds fermentation capacity in Shandong and Hunan, China and expands Kemin’s global enzyme R&D, manufacturing and product offerings across animal feed, food, aquaculture and industrial end markets.

CanBiocin Acquires Assets of Pure Cultures to Expand U.S. Operations

Edmonton-based CanBiocin Inc. acquired all assets of Denver-based Pure Cultures Inc., effective April 30, 2020, including species-specific probiotics, a U.S. patent and product brands Flock Vitality and Pig Vitality. The acquisition establishes CanBiocin operations in the United States and brings Pure Cultures founder Steve Kazemi into CanBiocin as Chief Commercialization Officer; deal terms were not disclosed.

Shionogi Inc. Acquires Qpex Biopharma, Inc.

Shionogi Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Shionogi & Co., Ltd., entered into a definitive agreement to acquire San Diego-based clinical-stage antimicrobial developer Qpex Biopharma, Inc. The acquisition (upfront $100 million plus up to $40 million in milestones) brings Qpex's investigational beta-lactamase inhibitor xeruborbactam and expands Shionogi's infectious disease R&D capabilities and pipeline.

Ecolab Acquires CID Lines from IK Investment Partners

Ecolab Inc. has agreed to acquire CID Lines, a Belgium-based provider of livestock biosecurity, disinfectants and veterinary medicinal products, from the IK VII Fund (advised by IK Investment Partners) and other shareholders. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals; IK had partnered with CID Lines since January 2016 and supported the company's international growth.
