Ascensus Specialties Acquires Strem Chemicals

Ascensus Specialties LLC, a Wind Point Partners-backed specialty chemicals platform, has completed the acquisition of Strem Chemicals, a Newburyport, Massachusetts-based maker of high-purity research-grade catalysts, ligands, organometallics and CVD/ALD precursors. The deal brings Strem's custom synthesis and cGMP manufacturing capabilities into the Ascensus platform to expand lab-to-commercial scale offerings and accelerate R&D and product development.

New Mountain Capital has led a recapitalization of Ascensus Specialties, with Wind Point Partners exiting its prior fund position while reinvesting alongside New Mountain through a special purpose vehicle anchored by Blackstone Strategic Partners. Ascensus, a Bellevue, Washington-based specialty chemicals manufacturer and global leader in borohydride, borane and specialty alcoholate reagents, will use the new capital to support R&D, product innovation and continued growth across pharmaceutical, microelectronics and other specialty end markets.

Ascensus Specialties Acquires Wychem Limited from AURELIUS Equity Opportunities

Ascensus Specialties LLC has acquired Wychem Limited, a UK-based independent fine chemical manufacturer, from AURELIUS Equity Opportunities. The acquisition expands Ascensus' European manufacturing footprint and adds Wychem's capabilities in aromatic compounds, halogenation and multi-step intermediates for pharmaceutical APIs; financial terms were not disclosed by Ascensus, while AURELIUS reported a 10.6x money-over-money multiple on the sale.

ALTIVIA Acquires Axiall's Specialty Phosgene Derivatives Business

ALTIVIA has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Specialty Phosgene Derivatives business and related assets from Axiall Corporation, including the La Porte, Texas chemical production facility. The transaction transfers roughly 120 facility employees to ALTIVIA and is intended to expand ALTIVIA's manufacturing capabilities and global competitiveness in specialty phosgene-derived products used in agricultural, pharmaceutical and industrial applications.
