Universal Corporation (NYSE: UVV) has completed its acquisition of FruitSmart, an independent specialty fruit and vegetable ingredient processor headquartered in Washington's Yakima Valley. The purchase, funded with cash on hand and existing borrowing capacity, expands Universal's agri-products capabilities and serves as a foundational step toward building a broader agri-products services platform.

Metcash to Acquire Superior Food Group

Australian wholesaler Metcash has agreed to acquire Superior Food Group for up to A$412.3 million as part of three acquisition agreements totalling about A$558.5 million. Superior Food Group is a national foodservice distributor with 23 branches, an 80,000 sqm warehouse footprint and over 20,000 customers across quick-service restaurants, caterers, cafes, restaurants and hotels.

SVB Foods Acquires Vita Specialty Foods

SVB Foods, a Martinsburg, West Virginia contract packaging and food manufacturer, has acquired Vita Specialty Foods, including its subsidiaries Virginia Honey Company and The Halifax Group (Oak Hill Farms). The deal expands SVB Foods' product portfolio and enhances its private-label and licensing capabilities for dressings, sauces, marinades and related condiment products.

Puratos Acquires Vör Foods

Puratos has acquired Vör Foods, a U.S.-based maker of ultra-clean-label nut butters and nut-based fillings, adding a dedicated SQF-certified nut facility in Trevose, Pennsylvania to its U.S. manufacturing footprint. The acquisition expands Puratos' nut ingredient capabilities to better serve bakery, confectionery and adjacent sweet-goods customers and enables closer technical collaboration and investment to scale Vör's capacity and R&D.

Benford Capital Partners Acquires Turri's Italian Foods

Chicago-based private equity firm Benford Capital Partners has acquired Turri's Italian Foods, a Michigan-based maker of IQF (individually quick frozen) pasta and rice. The Turri family will remain in leadership, and Benford plans to invest in production capacity and capabilities while pursuing add-on acquisitions to grow the business.

Crave Better Foods Acquires Solero Organic Fruit Bars from Iris Brands

Crave Better Foods, maker of Chipwich, has acquired the SOLERO organic fruit bar business from Iris Brands, LLC and will merge the brand into its Connecticut operations. The founders of Iris Brands, Josh Hochschuler and Steve Gill, will partner with Crave Better Foods to market Solero alongside Chipwich and pursue synergies and scale in the frozen novelty category; terms were not disclosed.
