Union Park Capital Acquires Majority Stake in Z-LASER GmbH

Boston-based private equity firm Union Park Capital has made a majority investment in Z-LASER GmbH, a Freiburg, Germany–based designer and manufacturer of laser modules and projection systems. Z-LASER will serve as the core asset in Union Park's newly created holding company, Exaktera, to support future growth and expansion while management remains in place.

IK Investment Partners’ IK VIII Fund has agreed to acquire LAP GmbH Laser Applikationen (LAP), a German manufacturer of laser positioning systems and radiotherapy QA software, from capiton. LAP is headquartered in Lüneburg, Germany, employs about 350 people across three manufacturing sites, and the deal is intended to support LAP’s growth, expand its QA software offering and enter new application areas in radiotherapy and industrial markets.

Pfingsten said it will work with PLT's management team to scale the business organically and through strategic add-on acquisitions to build a leading photonics solutions provider serving medical diagnostics, semiconductor, scientific R&D and advanced manufacturing end markets.

Terms were not disclosed; Advanced Illumination will continue operating from Rochester, Vermont with John Thrailkill remaining in a leadership role and will be integrated into Exaktera's precision components platform to expand machine-vision illumination capabilities.
