Gallagher & Co., through its specialist underwriting subsidiary Pen Underwriting, acquired 100% of UK-based Manchester Underwriting Agencies Limited (and its subsidiary Manchester Underwriting Management Limited). Terms were not disclosed; founder Charles Manchester will continue to lead the business. The acquisition expands Pens specialist underwriting capabilities and adds a complementary book of professional indemnity and management liability business serving SMEs in the UK.

Ardonagh Group Acquires Thames Underwriting

The Ardonagh Group has acquired Thames Underwriting, a Leigh-on-Sea–based managing general agent (MGA) that serves brokers across the Construction, Leisure and Commercial sectors. Thames (a 30-strong team) will join Ardonagh's MGA brands within Geo Specialty Group Holdings Limited, expanding Ardonagh's specialist underwriting capability and broker distribution with existing delegated authorities to Lloyd's and A-rated insurers.

The boutique brokerage, which specializes in trucking industry insurance for clients in Kentucky and nearby states, will continue to operate from its current location with its existing leadership team remaining in place under Gallagher's Mid-South retail P/C brokerage operations.

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., through its reinsurance division Gallagher Re, has acquired the business and assets of UK-based Lloyd’s broker Bay Risk Services Limited, a member of the Optio Group. Bay Risk, founded in 2016 and specializing in structuring and placing delegated underwriting authority (binder) business for program managers, MGAs and Lloyd’s coverholders, will join Gallagher Re’s global programs practice; the existing Bay Risk leadership team will remain in place. Terms were not disclosed.
