Vicinity Energy Acquires Morgantown Energy Associates (WVU District Energy System)

Vicinity Energy has acquired Morgantown Energy Associates, the district energy system serving West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, from an investment affiliate of Starwood Energy Group Global, L.L.C. Vicinity plans to convert the system away from coal to primarily natural gas (with ULSD backup), invest in additional dual-fuel boilers, and reduce the system's carbon footprint and local air pollutants while expanding its U.S. district energy footprint.

West Virginia American Water Acquires Jefferson Utilities

West Virginia American Water, a subsidiary of American Water, completed the acquisition of Jefferson Utilities (including assets of Valley Water and Sewer Services, Shenandoah Junction Public Sewer and East Jefferson Sewer Services) for $27 million. The combined systems serve 3,978 customer connections across Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan counties; the buyer plans infrastructure updates and will transition customers to West Virginia American Water service and PSC-established rates. The seller/owner, Lee Snyder, is retiring after building the systems over 25 years.

Cameco and Brookfield Acquire Westinghouse Electric Company

Cameco and Brookfield (with Brookfield Renewable Partners and institutional partners) have completed their joint acquisition of Westinghouse Electric Company after receiving required regulatory approvals, with the transaction closing on or about November 7, 2023. Cameco will finance its share using a US$600 million term loan and available cash; the deal transfers ownership of Westinghouse (a leading nuclear technology and services provider headquartered in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania) from Brookfield Business Partners to the new investor group.

Hull Street Energy acquired 100% of the interests in Gauley River Power Partners, LLC, the operator of an 80 MW hydroelectric facility in Summersville, West Virginia, from Enel Green Power North America and GE Energy Financial Services (via their EGPNA Renewable Energy Partners JV). The purchase was part of a larger purchase-and-sale under which Hull Street acquired thirty-one hydroelectric stations from the EGPNA JV and expands Hull Street affiliates' generation portfolio across the United States.
