SCHOTT MINIFAB Acquires Applied Microarrays Inc.

SCHOTT MINIFAB, a subsidiary of SCHOTT, has agreed to acquire Applied Microarrays Inc. (AMI), a Tempe, Arizona–based developer and manufacturer of DNA and protein microarrays and biosensors. The deal expands SCHOTT's bioscience and microarray printing capabilities and increases its manufacturing footprint in the United States to better support diagnostics and point-of-care customers.

Transatlantic healthcare private equity firm ARCHIMED (via its MED Platform II fund) has invested in PlasmidFactory, a Bielefeld, Germany-based contract manufacturer of plasmid and minicircle DNA used in gene and cell therapies. The founder and management will remain in place with a roll-over of a portion of proceeds; proceeds will fund rapid expansion including construction of a larger GMP-compliant production facility to meet growing demand.

(NASDAQ: AMPG) has executed a definitive agreement to acquire the assets and operations of Spectrum Semiconductor Materials, Inc., a San Jose–based authorized distributor of semiconductor components. The deal (approximately $8.0M cash plus $1.5M escrow and restricted shares) nearly triples AmpliTech's revenue base, adds a global distribution platform and a record combined order backlog of $11.4M, and is intended to accelerate commercialization of AmpliTech's MMIC chip solutions.

(AMI) for $7.0 million in cash with up to $3.0 million of potential milestone-based equity consideration. The acquisition brings AMI's chalcogenide glass compounding and large-diameter glass melting capabilities (up to 17") into LightPath's portfolio, adding manufacturing capacity, NDAA-compliant redundancy in Texas, and an expected ~$3.0 million in incremental annual revenue.
