Focus Home Interactive Acquires Leikir Studio

Focus Home Interactive has acquired Leikir Studio, a Paris-area (Ivry-sur-Seine) game developer of around twenty people, making it the fifth studio integrated into the Focus group. The acquisition expands Focus's production lines and technical capabilities (stylized 3D, pixel-art and 2D) and positions Dotemu (a Focus subsidiary) to publish Leikir's work on Metal Slug Tactics; Leikir's founder Aurélien Loos will join Focus as Senior Consultant.

Take-Two Interactive Acquires Playdots

Take-Two Interactive has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire mobile games developer Playdots for $192 million, comprised of $90 million in cash and the remainder in newly issued Take-Two common stock. Playdots, a New York City–based studio known for Two Dots and other casual free-to-play titles, will remain led by CEO Nir Efrat and its ~70 employees following the closing, expected in Q3 2020.

Wondr Gaming Acquires Hot Dot Media Inc.

Wondr Gaming Corp. entered into a binding agreement to acquire all issued and outstanding common shares of Hot Dot Media Inc., an influencer marketing agency with a creator network reaching 100,000,000+ followers. The consideration is 8,000,000 Wondr Gaming common shares (deemed $0.25/share); the parties expect the acquisition to close on or around June 1, 2021 to integrate HDM's creator reach into Wondr's gaming, rewards and NFT initiatives.

Sony Interactive Entertainment Acquires Housemarque Oy

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has completed the acquisition of Helsinki-based game developer Housemarque Oy, the studio behind PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal. Housemarque will join PlayStation Studios as its 13th studio, with day-to-day operations continuing under the current management team; financial terms were not disclosed.

Atari SA Acquires Digital Eclipse

Atari SA has entered into an agreement to acquire Digital Eclipse, an Emeryville, California-based game development studio specializing in the digital restoration and preservation of classic video games. The purchase consideration includes an initial $6.5 million (US$4.0 million cash and US$2.5 million in newly issued Atari shares) plus an earn-out of up to $13.5 million payable over ten years; Digital Eclipse shareholders will hold approximately 4.6% of Atari following a reserved capital increase. The acquisition is intended to expand Atari's internal development capabilities and advance its retro-focused growth strategy.
