Freeman Spogli & Company has acquired a majority interest in Kamps Pallets, Inc., a Grand Rapids, Michigan-based pallet management services provider. Founder and CEO Bernie Kamps remains a significant shareholder and will continue to lead the company; financial terms were not disclosed and debt financing was provided by Oaktree Capital Management, Adams Street Partners and Comerica.

The deals add 65 employees, 103 trailers and expand Kamps' Southeast footprint, strengthening its pallet recycling, new pallet manufacturing, and total pallet management capabilities in Florida.

Kamps, Inc., a national pallet company backed by Freeman Spogli & Co., has acquired Realm Companies LLC, a Newton, Iowa–based pallet manufacturing, recycling and warehousing platform that also includes WestWind Logistics LLC. Realm — a portfolio company of Great Range Capital — has about 180 employees across nine warehouse and manufacturing locations; all Realm and WestWind employees (including owner Chris Barton) will transition to Kamps following the deal. The acquisition expands Kamps' Midwest capabilities, adding pallet lifecycle management, reverse logistics and on-site TPM services.

(BDL), a South Charleston, Ohio-based pallet recycling and management company. The add-on deal (expected to close end of June 2021) expands Kamps' national footprint and pallet recycling capabilities while retaining BDL's employees and leadership under Kamps' PE-backed platform.
