Spruce Finance Acquires Clearway Energy's Residential Solar Portfolio (53 MW)

Spruce Finance acquired Clearway Energy's entire portfolio of residential rooftop solar assets, adding 53 MW and expanding Spruce's portfolio by roughly 20% to more than 250 MW. The deal supports Spruce's growth-by-acquisition strategy for distributed generation residential solar in the U.S.; Energy Service Experts (Spruce's subsidiary) will provide transitional asset management services in partnership with NRG.

Spruce Power Acquires Level Solar's 16.5 MW Rooftop Solar Portfolio

Spruce Power acquired Level Solar's entire portfolio of 2,637 rooftop residential solar assets (16.5 MW-dc), increasing Spruce's U.S. residential solar portfolio by roughly 5%. The assets, managed by SUNation Energy since 2017 and originated with help from New York Green Bank, are distributed across the Northeastern United States and the deal closed in early July 2022.

EQT Infrastructure Acquires Cypress Creek Renewables

EQT Infrastructure V has agreed to acquire Cypress Creek Renewables, a vertically integrated U.S. solar and storage developer, owner and operator, from funds managed by HPS Investment Partners and Temasek. The deal will support Cypress Creek's growth plans — including investments in operations, digital and sustainability initiatives — and is expected to close subject to customary approvals in H2 2021.

The Shyft Group Acquires XL Fleet

The Shyft Group, Inc. completed the acquisition of XL Fleet, integrating XL Fleet technical talent, equipment and a 24,655-square-foot Wixom, Michigan technology center into Shyft’s EV-focused Blue Arc business. The acquisition includes assuming a short-term lease on the Wixom facility and supporting completion of a Department of Defense pilot development agreement to advance fleet electrification and drivetrain technology.

BlackRock Acquires HPS Investment Partners

BlackRock has completed its acquisition of HPS Investment Partners and is creating a combined Private Financing Solutions (PFS) platform that integrates BlackRock’s public fixed income capabilities with HPS’s private credit, GP/LP, and CLO businesses. The combined PFS franchise will manage approximately $190 billion in client assets for private credit and maintain HPS branding as “HPS, a part of BlackRock,” with HPS CEO Scott Kapnick joining as an observer to the BlackRock board.

Birch Creek Energy Acquires Foundation Solar Partners from Hull Street Energy

Birch Creek Energy, a St. Louis-based utility-scale solar development platform, has acquired Foundation Solar Partners, LLC from private equity owner Hull Street Energy. Foundation Solar, founded in 2019 and focused on utility-scale solar development across the United States, will be integrated into Birch Creek to expand its development pipeline and capabilities in solar and storage projects.
