Macquarie Specialised and Asset Finance (part of Macquarie Group) has completed the acquisition of SP Smart Meter Assets Limited (SPSMAL) from ScottishPower/Iberdrola for around £900 million. The deal adds ~2.9 million smart meters to Macquarie's UK portfolio and establishes a long-term Meter Asset Provision arrangement with ScottishPower to support the ongoing smart meter rollout.

Energy Assets Group Acquires Cortex Metering Solutions I&C Smart Meter Portfolio from Macquarie

Energy Assets Group has acquired Cortex Metering Solutions (CMS), a UK industrial & commercial (I&C) smart-meter portfolio of more than 600,000 meters, from Macquarie Specialised and Asset Finance. The portfolio is rented to over 80 energy suppliers across Great Britain and the deal expands Energy Assets' I&C metering footprint and data services capabilities.

EQT and GIC Acquire Majority Stake in Calisen

EQT (via its Active Core Infrastructure fund) and Singapore sovereign investor GIC will acquire a majority stake in UK smart-metering and energy infrastructure owner Calisen from funds managed by Global Infrastructure Partners, Goldman Sachs Alternatives’ infrastructure business, and Mubadala Investment Company. The deal values Calisen at about £4.0 billion; Equitix will remain a minority investor and the transaction is subject to regulatory approvals. The new owners plan to support Calisen’s rollout of smart meters and expansion into adjacent energy-transition services such as EV charging, solar/battery and heat-pump installation.

Mitsubishi Electric Acquires Smarter Grid Solutions

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, through its U.S. subsidiary Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. (MEPPI), acquired Glasgow-based Smarter Grid Solutions (SGS), a provider of distributed energy resource management software. The acquisition brings SGS's DERMS capabilities into Mitsubishi Electric's grid control portfolio to support integration of renewable and distributed generation and to expand Mitsubishi's energy software offerings globally.

Molekule Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: MKUL) entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Israeli-based Aura Smart Air Ltd. in an all‑stock merger valued at approximately $10 million. The deal adds Aura's IoT-enabled sensors, software and data-driven air purification platform to Molekule's FDA‑cleared device portfolio to accelerate the company's push into B2B and enterprise Safe‑Air‑as‑a‑Service solutions; the transaction was expected to close in the second half of 2023 subject to customary conditions.

A consortium of Asterion Industrial Partners, EDF Invest and Swiss Life Asset Managers has completed the acquisition of Energy Assets Group (EAG) from Alinda Capital Partners and Hermes Infrastructure. Headquartered in Livingston, Scotland, EAG is a leading provider of multi-utility metering services, meter asset management and last-mile utility connections in the UK; the investors plan to support its continued growth and expansion into adjacent sectors such as IGT/IDNO, fibre and EV charging infrastructure.
