Postmedia Agrees to Acquire Certain Businesses and Assets of Saltwire

Postmedia Network Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire certain businesses and assets of Saltwire Network Inc. and The Halifax Herald Limited as Saltwire pursues restructuring under Canada’s CCAA. The transaction is intended to preserve local journalism in Atlantic Canada and provide Postmedia with back-office resources and operational infrastructure to support the regional network, subject to union agreements, stakeholder approvals and court approval.

Postmedia Acquires Brunswick News Inc.

Postmedia Network Canada Corp. has completed the acquisition of all issued and outstanding shares of Brunswick News Inc. from J. D. Irving, Limited, adding BNI's daily and weekly newspapers, digital properties and its parcel delivery business to Postmedia's portfolio. The transaction was valued at $7.5 million in cash plus $8.6 million in variable voting shares of Postmedia, and Postmedia says the acquisition expands its national news footprint and parcel delivery capabilities across Canada.

McClatchy and accelerate360 Merge to Form McClatchy Media Company

McClatchy has completed a merger with accelerate360 to form the McClatchy Media Company (MMC), combining McClatchy's local journalism with a360media's lifestyle content and accelerate360's retail distribution and logistics network. Chatham Asset Management is the majority owner of the new company, which will operate a unified digital publishing and retail distribution platform reaching roughly 100 million unique visitors and access to over 56,000 retail locations.

Cars.com Inc. Acquires D2C Media Inc. to Expand into Canada

Cars.com Inc. (d/b/a Cars Commerce) acquired Montreal-based D2C Media Inc. for CAD $105 million in cash (approximately USD $76 million) with up to CAD $35 million of potential performance-based consideration. The acquisition, which closed November 1, 2023, adds ~1,000 Canadian dealer customers and ~95 employees, accelerating Cars Commerce's geographic expansion into Canada and creating cross-selling opportunities across its Dealer Inspire and Accu-Trade brands.
