Naver is committing USD $100 million to finance the newly created Wattpad WEBTOON Studios, a merger of Wattpad Studios and WEBTOON Studios that combines both companies' IP libraries and audiences to develop TV, film and book adaptations. The new global studio, led by Aron Levitz as President, will unify entertainment development and production across WEBTOON and Wattpad's catalogs to scale IP-driven content worldwide.

Scaleworks Acquires Nextopia

Scaleworks, a San Antonio-based private equity firm, has acquired Nextopia, an e-commerce search, recommendations and personalization technology provider. The deal is being treated as an add-on to Scaleworks' portfolio (complementing SearchSpring), with SearchSpring CEO Peter Messana set to lead Nextopia and accelerate product innovation and go-to-market for e-commerce and DTC merchants.

Amplix (Gemspring Capital portfolio) Acquires Substantially All Assets of TNS Communications

Amplix, a Gemspring Capital-backed technology advisory and services platform, has acquired substantially all assets of TNS Communications LLC, a New Hampshire-based technology advisor serving ~200 enterprise and SMB customers. The add-on expands Amplix’s managed services, connectivity and cloud-telephony capabilities and strengthens its presence in the New England market; terms were not disclosed.

Kakao Entertainment Acquires Tapas Media and Radish Media

Kakao Entertainment signed definitive agreements to acquire U.S.-based storytelling platforms Tapas Media and Radish Media to expand its original content business in North America and other English-speaking markets. The transaction values Tapas at an estimated USD 510 million (100% stake) and Radish at an estimated USD 440 million, and keeps Tapas and Radish management in place while integrating them into Kakao's global content strategy.

Tokens.com Acquires Playte Group

Tokens.com Corp., through its subsidiary Hulk Labs, has acquired Playte Group, an Ontario-based developer of play-to-earn (P2E) gaming tools. Playte — a pre-revenue company with five employees — will be integrated into Hulk Labs to provide player-management and P2E asset tooling for Tokens.com's gaming initiatives; consideration included issuance of 1 million Tokens.com shares plus performance-based additional shares.
