Cenovus Energy entered into a definitive arrangement agreement to acquire MEG Energy in a $7.9 billion deal (inclusive of assumed debt), to be paid 75% in cash and 25% in Cenovus common shares, with the transaction expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025 subject to approvals. Strathcona Resources simultaneously signed a voting support agreement to vote its MEG shares in favor of the Cenovus–MEG transaction, and announced it will purchase Cenovus’s Vawn thermal project and certain undeveloped thermal lands for initial consideration of $75.0 million plus up to $75.0 million in contingent consideration.

Ovintiv Completes Acquisition of NuVista Energy for $2.7 Billion

Ovintiv completed its acquisition of all common shares of NuVista Energy Ltd. in a cash-and-stock transaction valued at about $2.7 billion. The deal adds roughly 140,000 net acres and about 930 net 10,000-foot equivalent well locations in the oil-rich Alberta Montney, with expected 2026 production averaging about 100 MBOE/d.

PakEnergy Acquires Petrosight

The acquisition, supported by PakEnergy's private equity partner Charlesbank Capital Partners, integrates Petrosight's drilling, completions, facilities and decommissioning modules with PakEnergy's existing land, field data capture, and accounting solutions.

CDPQ to Acquire Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. for C$10.0 Billion

Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire all issued and outstanding common shares of Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. for C$13.75 per share, implying a total enterprise value of C$10.0 billion. The transaction will take Innergex private, has unanimous support from Innergex’s board and backing from largest shareholder Hydro-Québec, and is expected to close by Q4 2025 subject to customary approvals.

Vista Energy Acquires Petronas E&P Argentina (PEPASA)

Vista Energy, through its subsidiary Vista Energy Argentina S.A.U., acquired 100% of Petronas E&P Argentina S.A. (PEPASA) from Petronas Carigali Canada B.V. and Petronas Carigali International E&P B.V. The transaction consideration includes US$900 million cash, US$300 million in deferred cash payments and 7,297,507 ADSs of Vista; the acquisition gives Vista a 50% working interest in the La Amarga Chica (LACh) concession in Vaca Muerta, materially increasing its scale, production and midstream capacity.

Strathcona Resources Ltd. to Acquire Pipestone Energy Corp. in All-Share Transaction

The deal creates a larger, oil-weighted Canadian producer with complementary Montney and heavy oil assets, improving scale, reserve life and market relevance for Pipestone shareholders.
