Gevo, Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the ethanol production plant and carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) assets of Red Trail Energy, LLC for $210 million. The assets include a 65 million gallon per year low‑carbon ethanol facility and CCS capacity with 1 million metric tons/year potential (160,000 tpy currently utilized); the deal is expected to close in Q1 2025 and will support Gevo's SAF and carbon abatement strategy.

Southwest Airlines Co., through its wholly owned subsidiary Southwest Airlines Renewable Ventures LLC (SARV), has acquired SAFFiRE Renewables LLC to secure exclusive technology and advance development of scalable renewable ethanol that can be converted into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The acquisition moves Southwest from investor to sole owner of SAFFiRE and supports a pilot plant using SAFFiRE's NREL-licensed technology to process corn stover into renewable ethanol, with planned conversion to SAF by LanzaJet.
