Dead River Company Acquires Maine Energy Company

Dead River Company acquired Maine Energy Company in September, marking the end of three generations of family ownership after owner Robert Cort’s retirement. The acquisition is an add-on to Dead River’s regional heating-fuel platform (which is PE-backed by Redwood Capital Investments) and will rebrand Maine Energy offices under the Dead River name while consolidating local heating oil and propane operations in the Bangor area.

Dead River Co., headquartered in South Portland, Maine, has acquired the oil and propane fuel distribution and service business of Consumers Fuel Co. of Belfast, Maine; the transaction closed on May 6, 2025. Consumers Fuel, a family-owned business founded in 1911 and owned by John Holmes, was advised by Tounge Associates during the sale and will transition operations, customers and employees to Dead River.

Riverbend Energy Group Leads Growth Equity Investment in CarbonQuest

CarbonQuest, a New York–based developer of distributed carbon capture systems and carbon management software, received a growth equity financing led by Riverbend Energy Group with participation from other institutional investors. The capital will support CarbonQuest’s commercial expansion into new end markets (including biogenic CO2 and utility infrastructure) and further development of its Carbon Management Software; Riverbend partners Joe Passanante and Eric Danziger will join CarbonQuest’s board.

Buckeye Partners Acquires Bear Head Energy Development Project

Buckeye Partners, L.P. entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Bear Head Energy, Inc., the owner of the Bear Head clean energy development project located in Point Tupper / Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. The project — a fully permitted former LNG import/export site with extensive land and water lot access — will be developed as a large-scale, lower-carbon energy production, distribution and export hub (including potential LNG or other green fuels).

Hull Street Energy sold Basin Creek HoldCo, LLC, a 53 MW natural gas-fired power plant in Butte, Montana, to Basin Creek Acquisition LLC, an acquisition vehicle formed by Platform Partners LLC and William Pate. The sale transfers ownership of the plant (formerly part of the Milepost Power portfolio) as Hull Street Energy exits the asset and the new owners take on a local generation and grid-reliability asset.
