Proofpoint, Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Hornetsecurity Group, a Hanover-based provider of AI-powered Microsoft 365 security, data protection, compliance, and security awareness solutions. The acquisition (expected to close in H2 2025) expands Proofpoint's reach into the MSP channel and SMB market and brings Hornetsecurity's ~$160–200M ARR business and large MSP partner ecosystem into Proofpoint's platform.

Hornetsecurity Group Acquires Altaro

Hornetsecurity Group, a Germany-based cloud email security provider backed by PSG and Verdane, has agreed to acquire Altaro, a Malta-headquartered developer of backup solutions for Microsoft 365 and virtual machines. The deal expands Hornetsecurity's product suite and international footprint by adding Altaro's Office 365 and VM backup capabilities to create a broader cloud security and compliance platform.

The deal — with Foghorn being acquired from Centersquare (which purchased Foghorn in 2021) — expands nClouds' cloud engineering, DevOps, and managed-services capabilities to better serve customers across healthcare, financial services, software, energy and the public sector.
