Dental Acquisitions in Illinois

The Zabel Companies has acquired Golden Ceramic Dental Lab (GCDL), a full-service dental laboratory headquartered in Prospect Heights, Illinois. Barings served as lead agent, sole lender and a minority equity investor to provide financing support for Zabel’s new platform investment in GCDL, enabling the sponsor to scale the dental lab business.

P1 Dental Partners, a Prairie Capital portfolio company, acquired Cornerstone Dental Partners, a 10-office dental support organization (DSO) in the greater Chicago area. The three Cornerstone owners — Mark Zieba, Jon Gregoire and Anthony Ponzio — joined P1 Dental Partners in executive leadership roles; the deal closed in December 2021 and terms were not disclosed.

Surge Private Equity-backed Access Dental Management LLC acquired Optim Dental and Vogue Dental, a six-location dentistry group in Illinois and Indiana, in an add-on transaction valued at approximately $10 million. The deal was financed with a structured investment from Corbel Capital Partners (in partnership with Dr. Tien Phan and Surge) and marks Access Dental's first expansion outside Texas into the Illinois/Indiana markets.

Cherry Tree Dental, a Madison, Wisconsin-based dental service organization backed by ICV Partners, acquired Richard Patelski DDS Family and General Dentistry in Downers Grove, Illinois. The transaction is an add-on acquisition that represents Cherry Tree's first practice expansion outside Wisconsin and supports succession planning for Dr. Patelski while enabling Cherry Tree's Midwest growth.

SmilePartners-USA, a portfolio company of Silver Oak Services Partners, completed multiple add-on acquisitions including PEDIA, a 14-location dental and oral surgery provider in the Chicago area, plus several additional general and specialty dentistry practices in the Detroit and Atlanta metropolitan areas. The deals add three locations and bring SmilePartners to 46 locations across Michigan, Illinois and Georgia as the platform continues geographic expansion.

Smile Brands Inc. made a strategic growth investment in DecisionOne Dental Partners to fund the DSO's continued growth and acquisitions across Chicagoland and neighboring states. DecisionOne's management team will remain in place while gaining access to Smile Brands' expansion capital and business support services.
