Engineering Services Acquisitions in Michigan

Troy, Michigan-based G2 Consulting Group has acquired Construction Testing Services (CTS), a long-standing Michigan engineering and materials testing firm with a nine-person team. The succession-driven acquisition expands G2's in-state footprint and adds CTS' geotechnical and materials testing capabilities while preserving CTS' staff and client relationships; financial terms were not disclosed.

AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. has acquired C2AE, Inc., a Lansing, Michigan–headquartered architecture and engineering firm with eight locations and about 120 professionals. The deal expands AtkinsRéalis' presence in the U.S. Upper Midwest and strengthens its capabilities in key end-markets such as Water, Transportation and Buildings.

The Stonewall Group, a private investment and management firm focused on architecture and engineering (A&E) companies, has partnered with AMDG Architects, an architecture and interior design firm headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The transaction represents The Stonewall Group's sixth partnership and aims to support AMDG's growth while preserving the firm's culture and design-focused mission.

Generational Group advised Hoffman Consultants, LLC, a Kentwood, Michigan-based structural engineering and detailing firm, on its sale to an individual investor. The transaction closed February 28, 2025; the buyer was not named in the announcement.

Sciens Building Solutions, a Carlyle-backed holding company focused on fire detection and security services, has acquired Novi, Michigan-based Elite Fire Safety as an add-on to expand Sciens' U.S. footprint into Michigan. Elite, founded in 2007 and employing nearly 80 professionals, provides fire and life safety design, installation, testing, maintenance and monitoring services to healthcare and high-rise/commercial customers.

The Austin Company, a Cleveland-based design-builder, has acquired Gala & Associates of Beverly Hills, Michigan. The acquisition adds Gala’s architectural, engineering and project management capabilities for automotive assembly and heavy industrial facilities to Austin’s platform to expand its design and engineering share of the automotive and heavy industrial markets.

UpT Reliability Solutions (a newly formed provider of motor repair, inspection & maintenance and automation services) has acquired Perceptive Controls, Inc., a Plainwell, Michigan-based systems integrator serving municipal water/wastewater and industrial customers. The deal — advised on the sell side by Calder Capital — is a strategic acquisition intended to expand UpT's automation and controls capabilities and geographic reach.

Rimkus Consulting Group, a global forensic engineering and technical consulting firm, has acquired Applied Safety and Ergonomics (ASE), a human factors consulting firm headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The deal expands Rimkus' human factors capabilities and geographic reach across the United States, adding ASE's services in product safety, usability testing, forensic investigations and litigation support.

Applus Services, S.A. (Applus+) has acquired Reliable Analysis, a laboratory-based EMC, materials and component testing company, for approximately €67 million. The acquisition (from the founding family) expands Applus+ Laboratories’ footprint in China and North America and strengthens its capabilities in electric vehicle (EV) powertrain and EMC testing.

CertTech, a Lenexa-based test systems and automation specialist, has acquired WTI (formerly Wineman Technology, Inc.) to strengthen its electromechanical test cell and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation capabilities. The acquisition expands CertTech's end-to-end test and real-time simulation offerings for government prime contractors and Fortune 500 customers across regulated industries such as automotive, aerospace, defense and medical devices.

Computer Aided Technology (CATI), a portfolio company of CIVC Partners, acquired Fisher Unitech from The Riverside Company. Fisher Unitech is a provider of 3D design software, additive manufacturing hardware and related training, maintenance and consulting services; the deal expands CATI's scale and geographic footprint across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and New England.
