Transportation Acquisitions in Maryland

Excel Courier, a Mid-Atlantic same-day and time-critical logistics provider based in Ashburn, Virginia, has acquired Quick Messenger Service (QMS), a Bethesda, Maryland-based courier with more than 40 years of service in the Washington, D.C. metro area. The deal expands Excel's DC metro footprint and adds medical and business-critical delivery routes to strengthen its same-day and healthcare logistics capabilities.

Lumin8 Transportation Technologies, a portfolio company of Crest Rock Partners, has acquired Rommel Infrastructure, a Linthicum Heights, Maryland-based provider of traffic signal and street light maintenance and installation services. The add-on expands Lumin8’s Mid-Atlantic footprint and service capabilities; the acquisition is the seventh add-on to the Lumin8 platform and brings Lumin8’s workforce to over 500 employees.

NOVA Infrastructure has exited Bold Holdco, LLC (Bold Ocean/Schuyler Line Navigation Company) to institutional investors advised by J.P. Morgan Global Alternatives' Global Transportation Group. Headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland, Bold Ocean is a U.S.-flag maritime operator that runs nine vessels under long‑term time charters with the U.S. government and other counterparties; financial terms were not disclosed.

Chicago-based private investment firm KCM Capital Partners led the acquisition of Elkridge, Maryland-headquartered ICAT Logistics, with equity and subordinated debt support from Lightspring Capital Partners and Midwest Mezzanine Funds and senior debt provided by Live Oak Bank. ICAT's founder and management remain invested and will continue to run the business; the deal positions ICAT for accelerated growth through expansion of its agency network and strategic acquisitions.

Quantix SCS, a portfolio company of Wind Point Partners, has acquired Delaware Express Co., a family-owned regional provider of dry and liquid bulk trucking headquartered in Elkton, Maryland. The add-on expands Quantix's specialized fleet and strengthens its Mid‑Atlantic footprint and dry/liquid bulk capabilities; terms were not disclosed.

Hub Group (Nasdaq: HUBG) acquired Choptank Transport, a non-asset refrigerated third-party logistics provider based in Preston, Maryland, for $130 million in cash. The deal expands Hub Group's refrigerated and brokerage capabilities, adds Choptank's technology platform and ~400 employees, and advances Hub's cold-chain strategy to better serve customers across food and retail supply chains.
