Building Products Acquisitions in Missouri

Integrated Openings Solutions (IOS), a commercial openings systems integrator headquartered in Olathe, Kansas, has acquired Design Supply Doors, a Kansas City-based subcontractor specializing in doors, frames, hardware, and Division 10 specialties. The acquisition expands IOS's presence and capabilities in the Kansas City market and broader Midwest region while adding Design Supply Doors' installation, repair, custom wood door modification, and maintenance capabilities to IOS's platform.

Decks & Docks Company has acquired The Deck Supply, a six-location composite decking and outdoor living products distributor based in the Kansas City area. The deal expands Decks & Docks' inland decking footprint across the Midwest, bringing The Deck Supply's retail locations and e-commerce capabilities into Decks & Docks' nationwide distribution network; the Smith brothers will continue to lead the business and hold an ownership position in Decks & Docks.

Armstrong World Industries (AWI) has acquired A. Zahner Company, a Kansas City–based designer, engineer and fabricator of high-design exterior architectural metal solutions. The acquisition expands Armstrong's exterior architectural metal capabilities and complements its existing architectural specialties portfolio; Armstrong funded the deal with cash and its revolving credit facility.

Germfree Laboratories, a modular and mobile cleanroom equipment provider backed by EW Healthcare Partners, has acquired Arcoplast, a maker of seamless primary barrier cleanroom wall and ceiling systems. The deal expands Germfree’s capabilities into fixed-facility and turnkey cleanroom construction, broadening its offering across biopharma, hospital pharmacy, biocontainment and food & beverage end markets.

The Backyard & Beyond, a regional portable building manufacturer and retailer based in Ellsinore, Missouri, acquired Bennett Springs Building Center and its brand, locations, website and product lines effective April 12, 2024. The acquisition adds multiple dealer locations across central and southern Missouri, expanding The Backyard & Beyond’s geographic reach and product offerings in Missouri, Arkansas and surrounding states.

SEI Group LLC, a Quad-C Management-backed installer of insulation and building products, acquired the assets of G5 Enterprises Inc., a Nixa, Missouri-based installer operating nine branches across Missouri and Arkansas. The add-on expands SEI's geographic footprint into the Midwest and South Central U.S.; financial terms were not disclosed.

Rainier Partners and its portfolio company SCI Flooring have acquired United Carpet, a full-service floor covering provider headquartered in Hazelwood, Missouri. The transaction is an add-on to SCI's flooring platform to expand geographic coverage and scale operations across the Midwest, particularly in the St. Louis and Chicago markets, and to strengthen the firm's multi-family, commercial, and residential installation capabilities.

Minnesota-based MacArthur Company acquired Missouri-based wholesale HVAC and metal distributor American Metals Supply. The strategic acquisition expands MacArthur's product portfolio and geographic footprint, and American Metals Supply employees will join MacArthur's Employee Stock Ownership Plan; financial terms were not disclosed.

Fi-Foil Company, a portfolio company of Validor Capital, has acquired Kennedy Insulation Group, a Carthage, Missouri-based maker of the VerSola™ reflective bubble insulation. The acquisition expands Fi-Foil’s reflective insulation product line and U.S. manufacturing and geographic sales coverage across the southwestern and southeastern United States; terms were not disclosed.

Woodgrain Inc. completed its acquisition of Huttig Building Products via a cash tender offer and merger, in which approximately 70.4% of Huttig shares were tendered and accepted. The transaction, which converted untendered shares into $10.70 per share, expands Woodgrain's distribution network, product offering, and value-added services.

R/W Specialties, a portfolio company of Strength Capital Partners, completed the purchase of assets and merged operations of America Building Products (ABP). The acquisition expands RW's specialty building-products distribution footprint by adding ABP's millwork, pre-hung door capabilities and product offerings across the Midwest, enabling operational synergies and broader service coverage.

Ambassador Supply (Fort Wayne, Indiana) acquired Pioneer Industries, LLC (dba Pioneer Truss Company and Pioneer Home Center) of Owensville, Missouri; the transaction closed December 20, 2021. Generational Equity advised the sellers (owners Matthew and Chris Lenauer); Ambassador expands its manufactured building-products footprint and will provide growth capital while retaining existing management and employees.

SiteOne Landscape Supply, Inc. (SITE) has acquired Semco Stone, LLC, a Midwest natural stone distributor with locations in Perryville (MO), Cincinnati (OH), Columbus (OH) and Kansas City (MO). The acquisition expands SiteOne's footprint and product offering in the Midwest natural/building stone and landscape supplies market.

Barrette Outdoor Living, a leading North American manufacturer of outdoor living products, acquired Madden Manufacturing of Lake Ozark, Missouri, a maker of railing products and screen enclosures. The deal expands Barrette's product portfolio and improves shipping and service capabilities to contractors and do-it-yourself homeowners across the country.

Hopkins Lumber Company of Memphis, a lumber, hardware and building materials retailer based in Memphis, Missouri, was sold to an unnamed private investor with the transaction closing on September 16, 2021. Generational Equity served as the M&A advisor on the transaction.

US LBM Holdings has agreed to acquire American Construction Source (ACS) from Angeles Equity Partners and Clearlake Capital. ACS is a specialty lumber and building materials distributor operating 70+ locations across nine states; the deal expands US LBM’s footprint in the Midwest, Western and Northwestern U.S. Financial terms were not disclosed and the transaction closed in mid‑2021 after customary approvals and financing led by Barclays and Credit Suisse.

American Construction Source (ACS), a PE-backed national building materials distribution platform, has acquired Tanco Lumber, which operates locations in Branson West and Forsyth, Missouri. The acquisition — the tenth by ACS under the sponsorship of Angeles Equity Partners and Clearlake Capital Group — will expand ACS's LBM distribution capacity in the Branson Tri-Lakes area; Tanco will continue to operate under its local brand and financial terms were not disclosed.

SRS Distribution has acquired Arrowhead Building Supply, a roofing-focused building products distributor with five locations across Missouri and Arkansas. Arrowhead — based in St. Peters, Missouri and founded in 1997 — will continue to be led by Larry Saxe and Jerry Pogue, and the company’s roughly 130 employees will become part of the SRS platform, which is backed by Leonard Green & Partners and Berkshire Partners.

Gateway Door and Contracting (St. Charles, MO) acquired Gateway Door & Contracting, Inc. (House Springs, MO) on March 23, 2021. The purchase is a founder succession/exit: owner Richard (Rick) Krassinger is stepping away into retirement while the buyer said it will continue serving residential and commercial customers across the St. Louis area.

WILsquare Capital’s portfolio company Crown Products, Inc. acquired substantially all assets of Jer-And, Inc., a St. Louis-based distributor of flooring and flooring installation solutions. The add-on expands Crown Products’ footprint across the Midwest and Rocky Mountain region; financial terms were not disclosed.

Cameron Ashley Building Products, a Pacific Avenue Capital Partners portfolio company, acquired the assets of St. Louis-based Warrior Building Products to expand its distribution footprint in eastern Missouri and southern Illinois. The acquisition strengthens Cameron Ashley’s presence in the Midwest and complements its existing Missouri locations while adding another stocking/distribution site to its network.

Beacon Roofing Supply, Inc. (Nasdaq: BECN) has acquired Contractors Roofing & Supply Co. (CRS), a single-location distributor of residential roofing products based in O'Fallon, Missouri with approximately $14 million in annual sales. The acquisition gives Beacon a presence in the St. Louis market and expands its distribution footprint while CRS owner Ken Bennett will exit to pursue other interests.
