Illumina Acquires Fluent BioSciences

Illumina, Inc. has acquired Fluent BioSciences to integrate Fluent's PIPseq single-cell technology into Illumina's product portfolio and accelerate its multiomics capabilities. The acquisition, which closed July 9, 2024 and was funded with cash on hand, brings Fluent's accessible, scalable single-cell chemistry and the Fluent team into Illumina to expand end-to-end single-cell solutions for research and applied customers.

Continuity Biosciences Acquires Focal Medical

Continuity Biosciences, LLC has acquired Focal Medical, Inc., a North Carolina–based biopharmaceutical company developing iontophoresis-based, site-specific chemotherapy delivery for pancreatic cancer. The acquisition transfers Focal Medical's patent estate, device platform, equipment, licensing agreements and key personnel to Continuity as it expands its drug‑delivery and device-enabled therapeutics capabilities and advances the lead program toward clinical trials.

Leica Biosystems Acquires Cell IDx

Leica Biosystems has acquired Cell IDx, a San Diego-based leader in multiplexed tissue profiling, integrating Cell IDx's UltraPlex multiplex IHC technology with Leica's BOND RX automation to expand translational research and multiplexing capabilities. The deal advances Leica's research-focused staining and imaging portfolio and brings scale-up and medical/scientific affairs support for Cell IDx customers.

Emerson Acquires Fluxa (after earlier equity investment)

Emerson (NYSE: EMR) initially made an equity investment in Fluxa in February 2021 to accelerate the development and commercialization of Fluxa’s Process & Knowledge Management (PKM) life‑sciences software. Emerson later completed a full acquisition of Fluxa (announced June 30, 2022) to integrate Fluxa’s PKM capabilities with Emerson’s life‑sciences automation and execution systems.

Bruker Corporation Acquires Nion

Bruker Corporation has acquired Nion, a Kirkland, Washington developer and manufacturer of high-end scanning transmission electron microscopes (STEM), including the UltraSTEM line and advanced EELS technology. The acquisition strengthens Bruker's materials science instrumentation portfolio and provides capabilities for electron diffraction crystallography; Nion reported approximately $8 million in revenue in 2023. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Emerson Acquires Fluxa

Emerson has acquired Fluxa, a Glendale, California-based life sciences software provider whose PKM solution accelerates tech transfer and drug development. The deal strengthens Emerson’s life sciences automation and software portfolio by integrating Fluxa’s technology with Emerson’s DeltaV control system to improve speed to market and manufacturing flexibility for biopharma customers.
