Tokai Carbon Acquires COBEX from Triton for EUR 825 million

Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. has acquired COBEX, a German manufacturer of carbon and graphite products, from funds advised by Triton for an enterprise value of EUR 825 million. The acquisition gives Tokai Carbon an expanded international footprint and production platform in Eastern Europe, and transfers ownership of COBEX (headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany) to the Tokyo-listed carbon products specialist.

Occidental (through a wholly owned subsidiary) has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Carbon Engineering Ltd. for approximately $1.1 billion in cash, payable in three roughly equal annual installments. The deal — which will make Carbon Engineering a subsidiary of Oxy Low Carbon Ventures upon closing — is intended to accelerate deployment and commercialization of direct air capture (DAC) technology and expand Occidental's low-carbon capabilities.

Triton V, through its subsidiary Rebecca BidCo, signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in RENK AG from Volkswagen Vermögensverwaltungs-GmbH and other shareholders, valuing VW’s 76% stake at €97.80 per share. The transaction completed in October 2020 after a voluntary public takeover offer that secured an additional ~14.2% of shares; RENK AG (headquartered in Augsburg, Germany) will be a Triton portfolio company focused on expanding its technology leadership and digitalisation initiatives.
