3i Group Acquires Regional Rail from Levine Leichtman Capital Partners

3i Group plc has acquired Regional Rail, LLC from Levine Leichtman Capital Partners. Regional Rail, a Kennett Square, Pennsylvania-based operator of short-line railroads and rail-related services (including Diamondback Signal), will be supported by 3i to pursue further growth and network expansion across its end markets such as agriculture, lumber and energy.

Patriot Rail Acquires Delta Southern Railroad

Patriot Rail Company LLC entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Delta Southern Railroad, Inc., a short line railroad operating two line segments in Louisiana serving two Mississippi River ports. The acquisition (terms undisclosed) expands Patriot Rail’s short line network and strengthens its presence and freight options in a chemical and forest-products corridor in Louisiana; the deal remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory authorization.

CSX Corporation Acquires Pan Am Railways

CSX Corporation (CSX) received approval from the Surface Transportation Board and completed its acquisition of Pan Am Railways, expanding CSX's network into New England. The deal brings Pan Am's ~1,200-mile regional rail network and access to multiple ports into CSX's eastern U.S. system to create expanded service opportunities for shippers across the region.

North American Rail Solutions / American Track Acquires Rapid Track

North American Rail Solutions, through its subsidiary American Track, has acquired Rapid Track, a Tyrone, Georgia-based rail maintenance and construction services provider. The deal expands American Track's footprint in the Southeast U.S.; Rapid Track's owners Shannon and Brandi Shockley will transition following the sale.

RailUSA Acquires CSX's 430-Mile Florida Panhandle Rail Line (Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad)

RailUSA acquired a 430-mile rail line and related real estate from CSX Corporation, creating the Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad (FGA) which runs from Baldwin to Pensacola, Florida. The line carries about 30,000 annual carloads, has 65 employees and 18 locomotives; terms were not disclosed. RailUSA is backed by Equity Group Investments and International Rail Partners.

Watco Acquires Great Lakes Central Railroad

Watco has received federal approval from the Surface Transportation Board to acquire the 420-mile Great Lakes Central Railroad (GLC). The acquisition, effective September 28, requires Watco to keep currently active GLC gateways open on commercially competitive terms and follows Watco's prior equity investment in GLC since 2013.
