Regional Rail Acquires Indiana Eastern Railroad and Ohio South Central Railroad

3i-backed Regional Rail has agreed to acquire the Indiana Eastern Railroad and the Ohio South Central Railroad, adding a combined 107 miles of short-line freight track across Indiana and Ohio. The deal expands Regional Rail’s Midwest footprint and strengthens its ability to serve industrial customers in end markets including food & agriculture and chemicals.

Akiem Group Acquires Macquarie European Rail from Macquarie Group

Akiem Group has agreed to acquire Macquarie European Rail, the rolling stock leasing business of Macquarie Group Limited. The purchase — terms undisclosed — transfers Macquarie’s passenger and freight rolling stock leasing operations across Europe and the United Kingdom to Akiem; completion is subject to customary closing conditions.

Ancala / Arkadia-Backed Phoenix Rail Acquires Lehigh Valley Rail Management

Infrastructure investor Ancala, together with Arkadia Capital, has launched short-line platform Phoenix Rail and completed its first acquisition of Lehigh Valley Rail Management (LVRM), which owns short line and terminal facilities at Bethlehem and Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The acquisition is intended to serve as a platform buildout/add-on to expand rail infrastructure, customer relationships and services across the US short-line rail market.

Macquarie Infrastructure Partners Acquires RailUSA, LLC

Macquarie Infrastructure Partners (MIP) acquired 100% of the equity interests of RailUSA, LLC, the U.S. holding company operating the 430-mile Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad and the 228-mile Grenada Railroad. RailUSA provides freight rail services, transloading, railcar storage and industrial development opportunities; Sidley represented MIP in the transaction.
