Canada-based Wellington Group of Companies has acquired Contract Express, expanding Wellington's brokerage, truckload and LTL services across the U.S. and Canada. Terms were not disclosed; Wellington said it will preserve Contract Express's brand and operations while adding buying power and support from the larger group.

Jones Logistics Acquires Nationwide Express

Jones Logistics (a portfolio company of Jones Capital) has acquired Nationwide Express, a Central Tennessee-based provider of dedicated trucking, warehousing, 3PL, recycling transportation and waste management services. The deal expands JoLo’s geographic footprint across the Southeast and enhances its service offerings (warehousing, intermodal and managed transportation), increasing the combined company's scale and capabilities.

Nippon Express Acquires MD Logistics and MD Express (U.S.)

Nippon Express Co., Ltd., via its U.S. subsidiary Nippon Express USA, Inc., completed the acquisition of all equity interests in MD Logistics, LLC and MD Express, LLC, making the businesses subsidiaries. MD Logistics is a U.S.-based third-party logistics provider (founded 1996) specializing in pharmaceutical cold-chain warehousing and distribution, with multiple facilities in Indiana and a site in Reno, Nevada and reported roughly $51M revenue for 2019.

Forward Air Acquires J&P Hall Express

Forward Air Corporation agreed to acquire the assets of J&P Hall Express, a privately held expedited transportation provider headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The asset purchase (expected to close in May 2021) expands Forward Air's LTL pickup-and-delivery footprint in southern Georgia and northern Florida, adding approximately $15.8 million in annual revenue, ~70 trucks and about 110 employees.

Phoenix Logistics Acquires Sam Dunn Express and Sam Dunn Enterprises

Phoenix Logistics, an affiliate of Phoenix Investors, acquired Sam Dunn Express (SDX) and the assets of Sam Dunn Enterprises, a warehousing, logistics, distribution and asset-based trucking business in Longview, Texas. SDX will be integrated into the newly formed Phoenix National Transportation, while the Longview facility becomes Phoenix Logistics' 10th location, expanding its regional transportation and fulfillment capabilities serving food, beverage and alcohol customers.

USPack (NewSpring Holdings) Acquires Capital Delivery Systems

The add-on bolsters USPack's healthcare logistics footprint and leverages its tech-enabled operating platform to provide greater visibility and expedited delivery for pharmaceutical and critical parts customers.
