Southwest Airlines Acquires SAFFiRE Renewables

Southwest Airlines Co., through its wholly owned subsidiary Southwest Airlines Renewable Ventures LLC (SARV), has acquired SAFFiRE Renewables LLC to secure exclusive technology and advance development of scalable renewable ethanol that can be converted into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The acquisition moves Southwest from investor to sole owner of SAFFiRE and supports a pilot plant using SAFFiRE's NREL-licensed technology to process corn stover into renewable ethanol, with planned conversion to SAF by LanzaJet.

Babcock Power Acquires Renewable Concepts Inc.

Babcock Power Inc., through its Babcock Power Renewables LLC subsidiary, acquired substantially all of the assets of Renewable Concepts Inc. and affiliate R. Tinsley Projects Inc. The acquisition adds wind-turbine maintenance, engineering and repair capabilities to Babcock's clean-energy services portfolio; terms were not disclosed.

Covanta Acquires SGS Recovery, Frontier Fibers and Buffalo Fuel Corp.

Covanta Holding Corp. acquired SGS Recovery, Frontier Fibers and Buffalo Fuel Corp., three Niagara Falls, New York–based companies that provide engineered fuels production, biodegradable agricultural bedding, and waste hauling/logistics. The purchases expand Covanta’s sustainable materials management capabilities, geographic footprint in Western New York, and its alternative fuels and waste-to-product offerings while strengthening its ESG and circular-economy services.

Renewable Energy Group Acquires Amber Resources (dba Sawyer Petroleum) and Affiliates

Renewable Energy Group, Inc. (REG) has acquired Amber Resources, LLC (dba Sawyer Petroleum) and affiliated entities M.O. Dion & Sons and Amber Petroleum Products, expanding REG's downstream footprint in Southern California. The acquisition adds over 60 million gallons/year of diesel sales, a significant lubricants business (Shell Prestige distributor), eight locations including three cardlock sites, and is expected to be immediately accretive.

Macquarie Asset Management Invests in SkyNRG

Macquarie Asset Management, via its Macquarie GIG Energy Transition Solutions (MGETS) Fund, will make an initial investment of up to €175 million in SkyNRG to support the company’s expansion of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production capacity. The funding will help SkyNRG develop dedicated SAF facilities in Europe and the US and accelerate its growth as a major SAF producer alongside existing partners such as KLM and Boeing.

GEF Capital Partners Acquires Lifecycle Renewables

GEF Capital Partners, a Washington, D.C.-based sustainability-focused private equity firm, has completed the acquisition of Lifecycle Renewables, a Massachusetts-based producer of renewable heating oil (LR100). The investment will support increased production of LR100 and expansion of Lifecycle Renewables' geographic reach beyond the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic to meet growing demand from institutional customers.
