Nippon Express Holdings, Inc. (NX Group) — via its NX Global Innovation Fund — acquired a minority stake in Spiral Inc., a Tokyo-based developer of indoor autonomous drone flight control systems, on August 23, 2024. The investment is intended to support Spiral’s expansion into Europe (including a planned Vienna subsidiary) and to allow NX Group to integrate Spiral’s technology into its logistics services via its cargo‑partner subsidiary.

Nippon Express Co., Ltd., via its U.S. subsidiary Nippon Express USA, Inc., completed the acquisition of all equity interests in MD Logistics, LLC and MD Express, LLC, making the businesses subsidiaries. MD Logistics is a U.S.-based third-party logistics provider (founded 1996) specializing in pharmaceutical cold-chain warehousing and distribution, with multiple facilities in Indiana and a site in Reno, Nevada and reported roughly $51M revenue for 2019.

Healthcare Holding Switzerland Acquires Schaublin Medica SA

Healthcare Holding Switzerland AG has acquired 100% of Schaublin Medica SA from its founders as part of a succession plan. Schaublin Medica, based in Plan-les-Ouates, specializes in distribution of vascular grafts, endoprostheses, stents and drug‑coated balloon catheters to hospitals across Switzerland and will join Healthcare Holding's medical-technology platform to expand product and service offerings.

Nippon Express Holdings, through its NX Global Innovation Fund, acquired a minority stake in Tokyo-based Spiral Inc., a startup that develops the MarkFlex Air autonomous indoor drone flight control system. The investment aims to support Spiral’s overseas expansion (including plans for a Vienna subsidiary), accelerate adoption of indoor drones at logistics and construction sites, and deepen NX Group’s capabilities in logistics and infrastructure inspection solutions.

H.I.G. Capital Acquires DX Group plc

H.I.G. Capital has completed a public-to-private acquisition of DX Group plc (formerly AIM-listed) for an aggregate consideration of £307 million. The acquisition gives H.I.G. control of the UK-based last-mile delivery and logistics provider DX, which operates across the United Kingdom and Ireland and will be supported to accelerate growth across its IDW, 2-Man, logistics and express parcels divisions.

Hahn & Co Acquires SK Shipping from SK Group

Hahn & Co acquired SK Shipping (the shipping arm of SK Group) in October 2018 in a deal worth about 1.5 trillion won that included purchase of debt and a capital injection, leaving Hahn & Co as the largest shareholder with a 71.43% stake while SK Holdings retained a minority stake. The private equity owner recapitalized and restructured the company, cut its debt burden, refocused on long-term contracts and environmental compliance, and helped SK Shipping return to profitability.
