Kinderhook Acquires Primal Pet Foods to Form Primal Pet Group

Kinderhook Industries acquired Fairfield, California–based Primal Pet Foods and will combine it with portfolio company Prairie Dog Pet Products to create the newly formed Primal Pet Group. The deal (terms undisclosed) establishes a multi-state manufacturing platform for minimally processed pet diets, treats and supplements, with Tim Simonds named CEO and plans to expand manufacturing capacity and innovation; the combined businesses employ more than 500 people.

The add-on deal (Kinderhook's 206th) will expand Prairie Dog/Primal Pet Group's portfolio and leverage its manufacturing, sales and distribution capabilities to scale Himalayan's product lines; financial terms were not disclosed.

Society Brands Acquires Primal Life Organics

The founders will remain involved (Trina Felber as brand president), and Primal Life's more than 20 employees will stay in place as Society works to scale the brand's DTC business and expand retail distribution.

Petmate Acquires Pet Qwerks
