GrubMarket Acquires Best Fresh Produce, Inc.

GrubMarket has completed the acquisition of Best Fresh Produce, Inc., a Los Angeles–based fresh fruit and vegetable supplier founded in 2007. The deal expands GrubMarket's presence in the Los Angeles market and gives Best Fresh Produce access to GrubMarket's WholesaleWare SaaS platform while remaining based in Los Angeles under its existing management team.

FirstFruits Farms, a portfolio company of Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board, has acquired Applewood Orchards, Inc. and Applewood Fresh Growers LLC. The deal expands FirstFruits' growing, packing and distribution footprint—adding apple acreage, controlled-atmosphere storage and new club apple varieties to better serve customers across the Midwest and East Coast.

PNC Riverarch Capital Acquires Fresh Direct Produce from HKW

PNC Riverarch Capital has acquired Fresh Direct Produce, Ltd., a Vancouver-based distributor of fresh, ethnic, tropical, organic and specialty produce, from HKW. HKW had partnered with Fresh Direct Produce in December 2018 and during the investment period the company completed three add-on acquisitions and strengthened its operations; Truist Securities and Taft Stettinius & Hollister served as advisors on the sale.

Midwest Marketing will continue to operate under its established brand and leadership—including President Megan Batteen—while Fresh Produce supports growth in the South Dakota market.

The add-on expands FreshEdge's geographic footprint westward (complementing its KT Produce acquisition) and adds capacity to better serve restaurants, hotels, school systems and other foodservice customers across Oklahoma and southwest Missouri.
