Apple Acquires DarwinAI to Boost On‑Device AI

Apple quietly acquired Canadian AI startup DarwinAI earlier in 2024, adding dozens of DarwinAI employees to its AI team. DarwinAI’s technology — focused on making AI models smaller and faster and on visual inspection for manufacturing and supply chains — will be used to help Apple run more AI capabilities on devices for iOS 18 and other products.

Augmented Intelligence (AUI) Acquires Quack AI

Augmented Intelligence (AUI) has acquired Quack AI, a developer of trainable AI agents for customer service. The deal brings Quack AI's ~15-person team into AUI, is expected to double AUI's Israeli R&D presence in Tel Aviv, and will integrate Quack's agent technology with AUI's Apollo-1 neuro-symbolic AI platform to expand customer service automation capabilities.

Voices Acquires Voices.ai to Launch Developer Platform for Voice Applications

Voices, the global voice-over marketplace, has acquired Voices.ai and plans to launch a next-generation developer platform for voice applications that will include APIs, libraries, documentation and cloud infrastructure. The acquisition supports Voices’ push into AI-generated voices and developer-focused tools to serve use cases such as voice assistants, eLearning and real-time synthetic voice applications.

Meta Acquires AI Audio Startup WaveForms

Meta has acquired AI voice startup WaveForms for an undisclosed sum to bolster its Superintelligence Labs AI unit. The startup — founded in 2024 and backed by Andreessen Horowitz — will bring its audio/voice LLM technology and founding team to Meta; roughly a dozen employees are reported to have been part of the company prior to the deal.

The acquisition, which adds Interactions' enterprise customer base and conversational AI capabilities to SoundHound's portfolio, is expected to accelerate SoundHound's leadership in agentic AI and expand its enterprise market penetration.
