Planet Fitness Acquires Sunshine Fitness (114 Clubs)

Planet Fitness, Inc. agreed to acquire Sunshine Fitness Growth Holdings, LLC — a Planet Fitness franchisee operating 114 clubs in the Southeast U.S. — in a cash-and-stock transaction valued at $800 million, funded in part by a new securitization and available cash. The locations (in AL, FL, GA, NC and SC) were folded into Planet Fitness' company-owned portfolio, and Sunshine co-founder Shane McGuiness joined Planet Fitness to oversee the combined corporate club operations; the deal closed in February 2022.

Fitness International Acquires XSport Fitness' 35 Clubs

Fitness International, operator of the LA Fitness family of brands, has acquired XSport Fitness' 35 locations and assumed operations effective immediately. The deal expands Fitness International's presence in the Chicagoland, New York and Virginia markets and preserves existing XSport membership agreements while offering members access to LA Fitness locations.

Johnson Health Tech Retail Acquires BowFlex Assets for $37.5M

Johnson Health Tech Retail, Inc., the U.S. retail subsidiary of Taiwan-based Johnson Health Tech Co., Ltd., purchased substantially all assets of BowFlex in a bankruptcy auction for $37.5 million. The asset purchase (approved by the bankruptcy court April 15, 2024, and closed April 22, 2024) includes the BowFlex, Schwinn and JRNY brands, finished goods and parts inventory, and will be integrated into Johnson Health Tech's North American sporting goods/ecommerce operations.

Chuze Fitness Acquires Bailey's Health & Fitness

7NXT (Gymondo) Acquires Buddyfit

Oakley Capital portfolio company 7NXT (owner of Gymondo) has acquired Buddyfit, an Italy- and Spain-focused online fitness platform headquartered in Genoa. The add-on expands 7NXT's subscriber base (bringing combined subscribers to more than 800,000) and extends the platform's European reach as part of a strategy to consolidate digital fitness and wellbeing across DACH, Italy and Spain.
