Wellness Natural, Inc., a newly created Toronto-based natural foods company led by CEO Michael Lines, has acquired the SimplyProtein nutritional snacking brand from Simply Good Foods USA, Inc. The acquisition transfers ownership of SimplyProtein — a plant-based, high-protein snack line sold across Canada and the U.S. — to Wellness Natural, which plans to expand the brand’s distribution and product growth under its leadership and board.

The acquisition, from United Nutritional Brands (an affiliate of Purchase Capital LLC) and other minority investors, expands Simply Good Foods' presence in the high-growth ready-to-drink protein shake segment and is expected to accelerate distribution and eCommerce growth for the OWYN brand (OWYN projected ~ $120 million net sales in 2024).

(Nasdaq: SMFL), a publicly held nutraceuticals holding company, entered a definitive agreement to acquire Purely Optimal Nutrition, a North America-focused eCommerce nutraceuticals company. The acquisition is expected to close within eight weeks, and Smart for Life said the deal will expand its product offering, drive additional revenue (Purely Optimal is estimated to generate over $8 million in revenue and ~$1 million in Adjusted EBITDA) and create economies of scale across its operations.
