The Simply Good Foods Company Acquires OWYN (Only What You Need)

The Simply Good Foods Company agreed to acquire plant-based RTD protein shake brand Only What You Need (OWYN) for $280 million in cash, with the deal announced April 29, 2024 and completed June 13, 2024. The acquisition, from United Nutritional Brands (an affiliate of Purchase Capital LLC) and other minority investors, expands Simply Good Foods' presence in the high-growth ready-to-drink protein shake segment and is expected to accelerate distribution and eCommerce growth for the OWYN brand (OWYN projected ~ $120 million net sales in 2024).

Simply Natural Foods will operate as TruFood going forward; the company is headquartered in Commack, New York and has approximately 200 employees. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Ya YA Foods will also complete construction of Oatly’s Fort Worth, Texas facility and enter a long-term manufacturing contract to produce Oatly products in Ogden and Fort Worth, expanding Ya YA Foods’ U.S. footprint and establishing a strategic manufacturing partnership with Oatly.

The Hershey Company completed its acquisition of ONE Brands, LLC, a maker of low-sugar, high-protein nutrition bars, for $397 million (approximately $325 million net of tax benefits). The purchase expands Hershey's better-for-you snacking portfolio and is expected to be accretive to earnings in the first full year post-close.
