AUA Private Equity and Avance Invest in Tropical Cheese Industries

AUA Private Equity Partners and Avance Investment Management jointly made a significant minority investment in Tropical Cheese Industries, a family-run Hispanic cheese and food brand founded in 1982. The founding Mendez family and Tropical Cheese management will retain a significant minority interest; the investors plan to support national expansion, deepen distribution (direct-store-delivery), and pursue complementary M&A opportunities. Terms were not disclosed.

Vandemoortele Acquires Dolciaria Acquaviva from Apheon

Belgian family-owned food group Vandemoortele has acquired a majority stake in Dolciaria Acquaviva S.p.A. from pan-European private equity firm Apheon. The deal gives Vandemoortele a stronger foothold in Southern Europe and Italy’s frozen bakery market while enabling further international expansion of the Dolciaria product range and industrial footprint.

Encore Consumer Capital Acquires Chalet Desserts

Encore Consumer Capital, a San Francisco-based private equity firm focused on consumer products, has acquired Chalet Desserts, a Sacramento-based specialty manufacturer of frozen bakery desserts. Encore said it will partner with founder and CEO Dave Laukat and the existing management team to pursue organic growth, capacity investments and add-on acquisitions to expand the platform.

Bain Capital Acquires Dessert Holdings from Gryphon Investors

Bain Capital Private Equity has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Dessert Holdings, a St. Paul–based premium dessert platform that includes The Original Cakerie, Lawler’s Desserts, and Atlanta Cheesecake Company. The acquisition from Gryphon Investors will support Dessert Holdings’ next stage of growth—pursuing product innovation, organic expansion and add-on opportunities—and is expected to close in Q2 2021 (debt financing led by Antares Capital).

AUA-backed Gourmet Culinary Holdings Acquires Gourmet Foods

The deal is the third add-on for the Gourmet Culinary Holdings platform as AUA seeks to expand national footprint and product offerings while partnering with the existing management team.
