Thurston Group Forms Gen4 Dental Partners with Five Points Capital Financing

Thurston Group has formed Gen4 Dental Partners, a new dental support organization (DSO), by combining five group practices (15 locations) across Arizona and Utah. Five Points Capital provided unitranche financing and an equity co-investment to support Thurston's acquisition and platform formation, and Gen4 will be led by CEO Lamonte Jensen and CCO Dr. Mitch Ellingson as it pursues roll-up growth.

Gen4 Dental Partners, a Thurston Group portfolio company, has acquired Bay Area Dental, a multi-location dental practice with sites in Los Altos, Mountain View and Cupertino, California. The deal expands the Gen4 platform into the San Francisco Bay Area and adds clinical capabilities including implant, orthodontic and cosmetic dentistry.

P1 Dental Partners Acquires Cornerstone Dental Partners

P1 Dental Partners, a Prairie Capital portfolio company, acquired Cornerstone Dental Partners, a 10-office dental support organization (DSO) in the greater Chicago area. The three Cornerstone owners — Mark Zieba, Jon Gregoire and Anthony Ponzio — joined P1 Dental Partners in executive leadership roles; the deal closed in December 2021 and terms were not disclosed.

Smile Brands Acquires Gateway Dental

Smile Brands Inc., a Gryphon Investors–backed dental support organization based in Irvine, California, has partnered with Gateway Dental in Seattle to provide full-service administrative support while the practice continues to operate under its existing brand. Gateway Dental, founded in 1992 and led by Dr. G. Glenn Buchanan and Dr. John Kim, will keep its existing staff of 14 and retain clinical operations while Smile Brands supplies purchasing, payroll, IT, billing, facilities and marketing support.

TriSpan Opportunities Fund Acquires Majority Stake in PG Dental Holdings

TriSpan Opportunities Fund LP acquired a majority interest in PG Dental Holdings, LLC in partnership with the company's management team and owners of certain affiliated practices. PG Dental is a regional dental support organization providing non-clinical administrative services to affiliated dental practices across the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions; the company supported dentists who served approximately 70,000 patients in 2018. Financial terms were not disclosed.
