Emart Acquires Good Food Holdings

Emart, South Korea's largest retailer, has acquired Good Food Holdings, the California-based owner of upscale grocery chains Bristol Farms, Lazy Acres Market, and Metropolitan Market, for $275 million. The purchase gives Emart a foothold in the U.S. grocery market while Good Food Holdings' operations and management are expected to remain unchanged in the near term.

Grocery Outlet Holding Corp. agreed to acquire United Grocery Outlet (UGO), adding 40 stores and a distribution center and expanding Grocery Outlet's footprint into six Southeastern states. The deal—purchased from affiliates of Gen Cap America, Inc. and current and former UGO management—is expected to close early in Q2 2024 and provides a platform for further Southeast expansion while being modestly accretive to 2024 earnings.
