Paramount Skydance has acquired The Free Press, the digital media outlet founded by Bari Weiss, in a stock-and-cash deal reported to value the outlet at roughly $150 million. Bari Weiss will remain CEO and editor‑in‑chief of The Free Press and will also take on the role of editor‑in‑chief at CBS News, reporting directly to Paramount Skydance chair and CEO David Ellison.

Postmedia Network Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire certain businesses and assets of Saltwire Network Inc. and The Halifax Herald Limited as Saltwire pursues restructuring under Canada’s CCAA. The transaction is intended to preserve local journalism in Atlantic Canada and provide Postmedia with back-office resources and operational infrastructure to support the regional network, subject to union agreements, stakeholder approvals and court approval.

Palella Holdings Acquires La Sicilia and Its Publishing Company (Dse S.p.A.)

Palella Holdings, the family office of Italian-American entrepreneur Salvatore Palella, has acquired the Sicilian daily newspaper La Sicilia and its publishing company Dse S.p.A. from the Ciancio Sanfilippo family via the Sicily Investment Fund. The purchase — which includes the publisher's stake in ANSA and real estate assets — will support a digital transformation (new app and platformization), investment in property assets, and an expanded national and international presence while preserving editorial independence.

City of Los Angeles Acquires Angel City Press

Forum Communications Co. has acquired seven daily newspapers across four Upper Midwest states from Wick Communications, including the Fergus Falls Daily Journal, Pierre Capital Journal, Madison Daily Leader, Williston Herald, Wahpeton Daily News, Hankinson News Monitor, and Sidney Herald. The deal is effective February 1, with the ownership transition taking place then, while Forum begins onboarding immediately.
